• Teaching Days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

    Jay Hutcherson grew up in Hartwell Georgia where he started trumpet the summer before seventh grade. As part of the Hart County High School Bulldog band, he made various 9th District and All-state concert and Jazz Bands.

    He received his Bachelor's of Music Education at the University of Georgia in 1983 where he studied  for a total of nine years under Albert Ligotti, 4th chair trumpet in the New York Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra directed by Leonard Bernstein. Jay played principal trumpet in the University Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band 1, Symphonic Band and the Redcoat Marching Band. He was also a member of the UGA Derbies pep band for four years.

    Jay also acquired a Master's of Business Administration in 2006. He is a retired teacher who has taught band for thirty-nine years, including two years with Atlanta Public Schools at the Northside School of Performing Arts, twenty-five with Fulton County Schools, where he taught at Russell which merged with three other high schools to make Tri-Cities, Ridgeview Middle School and various elementary schools He has taken all three levels of bands to Georgia 5th District Performance Evaluations where they have received superior ratings. He also taught an after school band program at Holy Redeemer Catholic School for a total of twelve years.  During that time, he also taught privately.

    In 2006, Mr. Hutcherson founded and directed the first ever Fulton County Elementary Honor band. The audition only band consisted of around seventy-five students from twenty-seven to thirty elementary schools each year. The Honor Band performed at the GMEA Fifth District Performance Evaluation and received superior ratings for several years. In the band's final year, it placed 1st runner up as the nation's best 5th grade band.

    Mr. Hutcherson also founded and directed the Vivace! Summer Middle School Band Camp in 2007 which had between 65 and 90 campers each year until 2020.

    Mr. Hutcherson is the owner of The Music Hutch Studio and teaches face-to-face and virtual lessons privately. He has taught a number of Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium (Baritone), Tuba, French Horn and Clarinet students who have auditioned and made district and All-State Honor Bands.
